Released: 1981
Well after Love Unlimited’s Love Is Back (D-) album flopped, the group did some more background vocal work for Barry White and the Love Unlimited Orchestra, but they never got another LP of their own.
Instead, lead singer Glodean White recorded this album of duets with her husband.
The results are not that good. And the major problem is that Barry’s and Glodean’s voices just don’t sound that good together. Barry ain’t got a voice that’s easy to work with on duets, especially ones where he and his partner are trying to harmonize.
Only two songs manage to be of any positive interest: “I Want You” and “We Can’t Let Go Of Love”. Both have the benefit of being upbeat and bopping along on that early 80s Yacht Soul vibe. Always easier to hide subpar ideas when the goal is to simply make people dance.
Not every happy dance song works, though. For example, “You’re the Only One for Me”.
Things get much worse on the ballads as Barry’s production and creativity gets shackled by the Quiet Storm aesthetic. I cannot stress enough how these songs truly suck.
ALBUM GRADE: F
I’m glad the husband and wife got to make an album together, but the rest of us suffered in the process. At least the album cover looked cool.
