CHANGE
Released: 1982
Well, the album title was Change and this gave some change alright. White dives fully into the synthesizer revolution and the results are largely awful. The only thing approaching a good song is the title track as its positive lyrics and a guitar solo manage to overcome the cheesy keyboards that mar the track.
Released as a single it was White’s biggest R&B hit (#12) since “Your Sweetness Is My Weakness” (#2) back in 1978. White had been and would continue to be on a woeful commercial slump.

Whoa boy did this album suck. White sounded absolutely exhausted. You’ll be exhausted too if you listen to any of these songs besides “Dreams”.
After this album failed to chart (seriously it was released and disappeared without a trace), White didn’t release a new album for another four years. It was for the best.

RISE
Released: 1983
This is the cheesiest early 80s dance music imaginable. White tossed aside all the good things from Welcome Aboard (C) in favor of more Casio keyboards as the cellos are completely sideleined on this album..
“My Laboratory (Is Ready For You)” is one of the absolute worst songs I’ve ever heard. “Do It To The Music . . . Please” is also one of the absolute worst songs I’ve ever heard.
“After Five” is boring as fuck, but at least it actually has strings. Fancy that for an orchestra. “Anna Lisa” is the one song that sounds halfway decent.
And the album concludes with “Goodbye Concerto”, which completely sucks. The strings are technically present, but Casio fever drowns them out.
Pitiful way for the Love Unlimited Orchestra to go out.
